Golden Mile Dental accepts patients covered by the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), a federal program that helps cover the cost of oral health care for eligible Canadian residents. We are a dental office in Scarborough and we submit CDCP claims directly to Sun Life, so covered treatment does not need to be paid for upfront.
CDCP Applications for 2026-2027 Are Open
Applications for the 2026-2027 benefit year are open now. If you have never had CDCP coverage, you can apply at any time.
The renewal period for existing members closed on June 1, 2026. Renewals for the 2027-2028 benefit year will open in spring 2027.
The CDCP runs on a benefit year that ends every June 30. If you are already a member, you must renew each year to confirm that you still meet the eligibility requirements.
If you missed the renewal deadline
If you had CDCP coverage for the 2025-2026 benefit year and did not renew by June 1, 2026, your coverage has ended. You can still submit a new application for the 2026-2027 benefit year, with two things to keep in mind:

No Access to Private Dental Insurance

Retirement Exception: You may be eligible if you’re retired and you opted out of your dental insurance through your pension plan before December 11, 2023, and cannot opt back in.
You and your spouse or common-law partner must have filed your tax returns in Canada for the previous year.
Income and Residency
Your adjusted family net income is less than $90,000 and you are a Canadian resident for tax purposes.
If you Have Dental Coverage Through Government Social Programs
If you have coverage through a provincial, territorial, or federal government social program, you could still qualify. Your coverage will be coordinated between the plans to avoid duplications or gaps.
You must attest that you do not have access to dental insurance. The CDCP verifies this by reviewing tax records (T4/T4A) submitted by employers or pension plan administrators.
If you provide false information, you and your family may be removed from the plan.
If found ineligible, you will be required to repay any amounts claimed for services.

Everyone Who Qualifies Can Apply
The phased rollout by age group finished in 2025. The CDCP is now open to every Canadian resident who meets the four eligibility requirements, at any age. There is no waiting period tied to your date of birth and no application window to watch for.
You apply for the CDCP directly through the Government of Canada, not through a dental office. There are two ways to do it. You can apply online through your My Service Canada Account (MSCA), or you can call Service Canada at 1-833-537-4342 (TTY 1-833-677-6262) to apply by phone. Applications for the 2026-2027 benefit year are open now, and there is no age restriction or application window.
Before you start, make sure you have your Social Insurance Number, date of birth, home and mailing address, and a list of any dental coverage you receive through a government social program. You and your spouse or common-law partner must have filed your previous year’s tax return and received your notice of assessment.

We submit claims to Sun Life on your behalf, so you are not asked to pay the full cost of covered treatment upfront. Below is a breakdown of which services the plan covers, which ones need preauthorization first, and what you may still owe at the end of a visit.
Preventive and diagnostic care is the part of the plan with the broadest coverage and the fewest restrictions. These services help catch problems while they are still small. Covered under the CDCP:

If your teeth are damaged because of tooth decay or other issues, our restorative services help you regain the health and beauty of your smile. Our restorative services under CDCP include:
We treat the problems inside the tooth, such as infected pulp or damaged roots, through procedures like root canals and pulp therapy.
Our periodontal services under CDCP include preventing, diagnosing and treating gum disease and any other condition that affects the gums and supporting structures of the teeth.
The CDCP covers removable prosthodontics, which replace missing teeth with appliances you can take out. Fixed options such as bridges and dental implants are not covered by the plan.
Treats complex dental issues, including extraction of teeth, removal of tumors, and surgical procedures related to the jaws and facial structures.
Additional services are provided in support of other treatments, including various levels of sedation and anesthesia.
Orthodontic services are not available under the CDCP yet. The Government of Canada has confirmed that a specific range of orthodontic services will be added at a future date that has not been announced. When they are added, preauthorization will be required. If you are considering treatment now, our orthodontic options in Scarborough are available on a private-fee basis.

The CDCP will cover a percentage of your dental care expenses. The coverage depends on your family’s net income. You may need to pay a part of the expenses yourself based on your income level.

If your adjusted family net income is lower than $70,000, the CDCP will cover 100% of eligible oral health care service costs at the established fees, and you won’t be responsible for any co-payments.
If your adjusted family net income falls between $70,000 and $79,999, the CDCP will cover 60% of eligible oral healthcare service costs at the established fees, and you will be responsible for the remaining 40%.
If your adjusted family net income falls between $80,000 and $89,999, the CDCP will cover 40% of eligible oral healthcare service costs at the established fees, and you will be responsible for the remaining 60%.

The CDCP lowers the cost of routine and restorative dental care for households that do not have private insurance. Golden Mile Dental accepts CDCP patients of all ages, including children and seniors, at our Scarborough office.

Lower out-of-pocket cost: How much you pay depends on your adjusted family net income. Below $70,000 there is no co-payment on CDCP established fees.
Wide provider choice: Participation in the CDCP is voluntary and there is no restricted network. Any licensed dentist, denturist, dental hygienist or dental specialist can bill the plan, either by signing up with Sun Life or by submitting claims case by case. You can find participating providers through Sun Life’s CDCP provider search.
Preventive Services: The CDCP emphasizes preventive care, covering routine check-ups, cleanings, and screenings to detect and address oral health issues early, helping to prevent more serious problems from developing in the future.
